The hotel generally provides a getting-ready location. However, I always recommend adding a suite to your wedding package. This ensures you and your wedding party have a dedicated space for taking photos, relaxing, and enjoying room service before the festivities begin.
The getting-ready space easily accommodates 10-15 people without feeling crowded. You can also book an optional suite called Ponto separately. It’s an amazing modern space filled with beautiful natural light and breathtaking ocean views.’s breathtaking!).
The Ceremony Location
Ceremonies take place on the Ocean Bluff, an outdoor area right by the ocean. This fantastic space allows you to personalize your unique vision. You might notice a cement block on the bluff. The venue manager explained that it honors someone who greatly supported the hotel and the City of Encinitas.
You can incorporate it into your design in several ways. Decorate the floor with flowers to soften the look. Create a custom structure around it. Or use it as a centerpiece with varying heights, adding flower holders or candles.
The ceremony location sits near the pool area, but guests always show respect during events. The staff offers pool-goers a glass of champagne around ceremony time, kindly reminding them of the special occasion. Guests appreciate this gesture and understand the importance of not interfering.
Cocktail Hour
When it’s time for the cocktail hour, you have two options for your Alila Marea wedding. You can either host it on the Bluff, close to the ceremony site, or in the Oceana Foyer and Terrace, which provide a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean. The combination of the ballroom, foyer, and terrace creates a unique indoor-outdoor experience that sets the perfect ambiance for mingling and enjoying drinks and hors d’oeuvres.
Reception
The reception takes place in the elegant Oceana ballroom, which has so many things to love. What’s truly remarkable is that one wall of the ballroom is basically a huge glass door that opens up to the cocktail hour area and ocean view.

Each time I’ve had the pleasure of working with the catering managers and organizing events for our lovely couples, it has been a truly exceptional experience. The banquet staff is impressively prepared and professional, making collaboration an absolute joy. And when it comes to dietary needs and special requests, the kitchen team has got it down to a science. Alila Marea weddings are sophisticated and classy and definitely make the resort one of the finest luxury oceanfront wedding venues in San Diego. Yes, the wedding packages might come with a higher price tag, but it’s totally justified. You’re not only paying for the stunning venue but also for the outstanding treatment you’ll receive as a valued guest.
